Herod's stepdaughter, the sultry Salome falls in love with a fascinating prisoner: the prophet Jochanaan (John the Baptist). A troubled desire will lead her to demand his head. Inspired by Oscar Wilde, this masterpiece of subversion brilliantly weaves together Eros and Thanatos, orientalism and modernity. Baritone Matthias Goerne signs his first production. Around the debut, in the title role, of Marie-Adeline Henry (unforgettable Jenůfa), a prestigious cast placed under the direction of Frank Beermann, eminent Straussian. After Ariadne auf Naxos, Elektra and La Femme sans ombre, the Opéra national du Capitole, supported by an Orchestra unequaled in this music, continues to work in France to promote the all too rare presence of Strauss in the repertoire.
